Tulle
Fabric is named after the French town of Tulle, pronounced "tool",
where it most likely originated during the 18th century. Most tulle fabric is
machine-made using a Bobinette structure, a hexagonal design that uses tension
in the threads to retain shape. The result is a surprisingly strong fabric,
light in weight and delicate in appearance only.

I only

Totally
Tutus believes in protecting our children! I would NEVER expect your child to wear something I would never put on my own. Our tutu fabric
is Lead safe nylon apparel tulle (NOT CRAFT TULLE) and is manufactured in North
America, which is VERY IMPORTANT and is what separates Totally Tutus from
others.
Because our tulle has to pass very stringent quality tests, the federal
government recognizes nylon as being inherently flame retardant. Many companies
like to use polyester tulle because it's cheaper but polyester tulle is not
safe. Polyester tulle is sometimes treated to make it flame retardant, but the
chemical used may be a carcinogen, which can lead to cancer.

The LOW DOWN of
Totally Tutus and TULLE
Our North American-made
Tulle is:
- Fire Resistant
- Rated Class 1 according to the standard for
the flammability of clothing textiles (CFR Title 16 Part 1610) and the
manufacturing process does not use any of the flammable solvents that
they use overseas.
- Non-Toxic and Safe for Children's Clothing
- Meets or exceeds USA CPSIA and Canada HPA
guidelines for lead/toxicity levels
o The Consumer
Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008 authorized a variety of new
regulations and testing requirements for children’s products and some
non-children’s products. The CPSIA fundamentally changed how product safety is
regulated in North America.
- Soft to Touch and Less Irritating to Skin
- Our tulle has a finer mesh weave pattern
and a higher quality nylon thread that is gentle on the skin. This is
especially important for tutus and children's clothing!
Don't be mislead by imported 'hobby' tulle which is
often highly flammable and cheaper in price.
If you are purchasing ANY type of apparel made with tulle, you
owe it to your family/children, to offer them the safety they deserve.
If you have any further questions or concerns regarding tulle, PLEASE do not hesitate to ask.
